Orange Is The New Black S4

This week, Hidden Remote staff writer Julie Linzer joins us on the podcast. She’s a super smart cookie who wrote her Master’s thesis on female agency and power dynamics in Game of Thrones. Coolest. Thesis. Ever. Right? So we wanted to chat with her about the sudden death of one of our favorites, and how power – both corporate and personal – played in to the events that led to Poussey’s untimely death.

Recommended Reading: At one point in the talk, I reference the article “What You Can Do Right Now About Police Brutality” by Ijeoma Olou. It’s an enlightening and informed piece about taking action within your community – even if you are white – to raise awareness of the Black Lives Matter movement. You don’t have to be black to effect change. Institutional racism is everyone’s responsibility. Do something.

Also, we talk about the horrific death of Darius Robinson, a young man who was killed in an Oklahoma jail by guards using unauthorized choke holds and pepper spray. This death occurred just days after Season 4 of Orange is the New Black premiered, and the parallels between Darius and Poussey cannot be ignored. Check out his story and honor his memory.
